Each year thousands of persons with disabilities and their families have a need for dental services in Northern Virginia. Some of the clinics listed serve special populations. Some are accessible to those who live with mobility impairments, have language interpreters, and are accessible to persons with hearing impairments.
Referral services are listed to assist persons to locate providers. We hope that you will find this information helpful.

The following are terms used in dentistry:
Crown: material used to cover damaged teeth.
Extraction: removal of a tooth.
Filling: silver or white material used to fill cavities.
Denture: false tooth.
Scaling: removal of material from the teeth with a sharp object.
Anesthesia: local, numbing of an area, general, completely asleep.
Oral surgery: cutting with an instrument.
Orthodontia: straightening of teeth with braces.

Adult clinics are those that treat patients beginning at ages 18 or 19. Some clinics treat senior citizens as well.

It accepts low-income patients ages 3-18, and 60 and over. It has an accessible entrance and Spanish interpreters. Patients ages 18-60 must phone Purcell Carr for an interview and referral. It provides most services with the exception of orthodontia and cosmetic work. Cost is on a sliding scale basis, accepts Medicaid and Medicare.

This clinic only sees patients referred by an agency. It accepts private insurance only. It does not do crowns, bridges or cosmetic work. It has an accessible entrance and a Spanish interpreter. Fees are determined by the work needed.

This clinic uses college students to perform cleanings, exams, X-rays and periodontal work to train as dental hygienists. There is a waiting list. Metered parking is available so is an accessible entrance and a Spanish interpreter. Patient will pay the cost of supplies.

Northern Virginia Family Services

This agency will set up an appointment with an outside dentist who will perform dental work. They do not offer emergency services. This is a low cost service for persons who meet income guidelines. Contact Jenny Rodriguez.

This free clinic is for Alexandria residents only. Most dental services are offered except Orthodontia. It has an accessible entrance and Spanish interpreters. Cost of services is free to Alexandria residents and based on income for all other persons.

This clinic is for children up to age 18. It offers all dental services except orthodontia. They must be screened by a Family Assistance Worker and current eligibility must be in the files. There is an accessible entrance, and a Spanish interpreter. The cost is based on eligibility requirements and Medicaid is accepted.

This clinic serves children 18 and under. It provides dental exams, cleanings, fillings, route canals, and crowns, through private dentists who agree to treat patients for a reduced fee. Patients must meet low-income eligibility income requirements and live in Fairfax County, City, or Falls Church. Co-payments are assessed by the case manager.

It has an accessible entrance, and Spanish interpreter. Cost is free to very low-income persons, Medicaid accepted, sliding scale for those above income. Adults, emergencies only.
