IL Skills Training Bathroom

Independent living skills training in basic activities of daily living often involves goal setting and problem solving that can be best accomplished "hands-on" in practice sessions - kind of like a laboratory setting. This facility is designed to re-create the features of the laboratory in which individuals with disabilities can practice transferring skills, bathing and basic toilet techniques that enhance independent living.

This independent living skills bathing laboratory includes several high-tech features including a Barrier Free Lift that permits an individual with upper mobility to transfer from the wheelchair to the toilet or bathtub and a roll-in shower with a flip-down bench seat. Other notable features include adjustable shower heights, a side bench with grip-holders on the tub for sponge bathing or for use by a personal assistant, and built-in turnaround space for wheelchair maneuverability.
