When it comes to access and simplicity, sometimes the old ideas work best. Remember the old "Partners Desk" that was used extensively in early post offices and law firms in this country, where two people facing each other worked at the same time? That concept creates today's accessible options for working meetings with individuals with disabilities in an executive office setting. The sitting chairs in this office and throughout ECNV are each on wheels so individuals who ambulate can slide up to the conference area of the desk. Similarly, visitors or employees who use wheelchairs or scooters can slide alongside or under the desk as well so every individual can work comfortable together. Another accessibility feature in this office is the windows. They obviously permit a great deal of natural light to the workspace and that light is an asset to some individuals who live with depression. Of course it works both ways "some individuals work best in areas that have minimal natural light. This circumstance can be readily accommodated by closing the full-length blinds whenever necessary. The window blinds closures, by the way, also contain subtle, accessible features including the height they are positioned at (36" from the ground) and the rotation mechanism that is employed to open and close the blinds easily. |
