ECNV offers Independent Living services that support people with disabilities in living independently and participating fully in their communities. Our Independent Living (IL) services are non-age restricted and available across the lifespan. Contact us at info@ecnv.org or call 703-525-3268.
Housing Assistance
These housing navigation services are open to all eligible residents of Northern Virginia.
Virginia Housing Accessibility Grants: ECNV acts as an official application agent. We secure up to $10,000 in home modification grants. Funds cover ramps, chairlifts, remote entry, bathroom upgrades and more.

Fairfax County Mainstream Housing Applications: Direct assistance navigating the Mainstream Housing Voucher process. This program helps individuals with disabilities secure affordable, independent living situations.
Core Independent Living Services
Standard cross-disability services are available to individuals with disabilities of all ages. These services focus on individualized support, skills training, and community access.
Financial & Independent Living Skills Support: Provides basic, individualized instruction in money management, budgeting, and daily living skills such as cooking, laundry, and personal care through one-on-one or limited skill-building sessions.
Peer Support: Provides encouragement, guidance, and shared lived experience to help individuals navigate challenges, build independence, and connect with community resources. Referrals are available to peer mentoring programs and workshops when additional support is appropriate.
Durable Medical Equipment: Helps connect individuals to free, recycled durable medical equipment and supports access to available items as inventory allows.
Housing Guidance: Supports individuals in identifying accessible and affordable housing options and connecting to relevant housing resources and programs.
Travel Training Referrals: Submits referrals to travel training programs, where individuals are matched with certified travel trainers for navigating Washington Metro public transit. Please fill out our Travel Training Referral Form to request Travel Training or make a referral for someone else.
Individual Advocacy: Guides consumers on understanding how to exercise civil rights, self-advocacy, and accessing programs, services, and benefits.
Vocational Support: Provides assistance with résumé development, job readiness skills, interview preparation, and employment-related goals.
Assistive Technology Training: Helps individuals learn about and effectively use assistive technology to increase independence at home, school, work, and in the community.
Waiver Support Coordination Collaboration: Works with Support Coordinators and individuals receiving DD or FIS Waivers to identify Independent Living goals and services that complement waiver support.
Note:Some structured Independent Living programs and classes are designed for adults ages 23 and older, particularly those funded through waiver or program-based services. Individualized support, resource navigation, and housing assistance may be available to individuals of all ages.
Independent Living Skills Programs (Fee-Based Programs for Ages 23+)
ECNV offers individualized adult programs & services that support independence, skill development, community engagement, employment goals, and more. Our one-on-one programming is tailored to each person's unique strengths and needs, helping adults with disabilities achieve their goals and thrive in their communities. These structured training classes are led by ECNV Independent Living Specialists. They empower adults with disabilities to take control of their lifestyles.
Healthy Relationships & Communication in the Workplace (Virtual): Navigates workplace expectations, promotes professional interactions, and builds verbal/non-verbal communication strategies to ensure job security.
Money Matters 101 (Virtual): Covers introductory budgeting, saving, and personal financial management. Register here
Money Matters 201 (Virtual): Explores advanced financial concepts for independent living. (Prerequisite: Money Matters 101) Register Here
Own Your Own Path (Virtual): Focuses on goal setting and personal leadership strategies.
Thriving Solo (Hybrid-In-Person & Virtual): Build skills and understanding in the key areas of living independently: cooking and meal preparation, daily routine, stress management, money management, self-advocacy, community transit usage and more. Register Here
